At ARC Veterinary Physiotherapy we take a science-based approach, with scientific research justifying the therapies we use, ensuring your animal is provided with optimal benefits from proven treatments.

Equine Veteran Treatment
At ARC Veterinary Physiotherapy we have a passion for treating older animals and believe that pets of any age deserve to be comfortable and happy. Therefore, we also offer veteran treatment for horses aged 18+ years at a reduced rate. There may also be an option for senior dog physio packages at a later date. Please contact us for enquiries.

What is included?
Assessment
A full and comprehensive assessment will be completed prior to your animal receiving treatment. This includes gathering a case history of your animal, assessing your animal stood static, dynamic assessment of the animal moving, range of motion of the joints, palpation of all the underlying structures, and a spinal and/or neurological assessment if necessary.
Treatment
Following assessment, a treatment plan will then be tailored and provided to your animal in order to meet their individual requirements. These include massage, stretching, remedial exercise, myofascial release, acupressure, kinesiology, and electrotherapy. See below for more details.
Remedial Exercise Plan
Individual exercises will then be prescribed to further enhance the benefits of physiotherapy after treatment. This can range from a few suggested exercises to a full day-to-day rehabilitation plan.
Treatments Provided
During a session, your animal will be provided with a wide range of scientifically justified modalities to ensure the problem areas are targeted as effectively as possible. Treatment will always be tailored to the individual in front of us. A range of the below modalities may be chosen depending on the presenting circumstances.
Massage
Massage will be used in all treatment sessions as the foundation of pain relief, improvement of muscle condition, and circulatory benefits.
Kineseology Taping
Adelaide has completed an Equine RockTape course, which enables the application of sports tape to aid in benefiting a wide range of conditions.
Stretching
Stretching will be employed to increase flexibility, increase stride length, decrease risk of injury, and enhance overall performance.
RRE exercises
Static remedial exercises can be incorportaed into treatment sessions to ensure multiple benefits, with a range of exercises prescribed after we've left to ensure continued progression.
Electrotherapy
Electrotherapy in the form of TENS, thermotherapy, and PEMF therapy can be incoorporated into treatment sessions where necessary, to provide pain relieivng and healing effects.
Acupressure
With reference to traditional Chinese medicine, acupressure primarily aims to reduce pain and induce relaxation through energy flow and meridian systems.
Laser Therapy
At ARC Vet Physio we also have a class 3b laser that can be utilised for both horses and dogs throughout sessions for a wide range of reasons including trigger points, osteoarthritis, pain management, and wound healing.

Equine sessions typically last around 1 hour - 1 hour 45 minutes and include a thorough assessment of clinical history, posture, and movement. Followed by a full palpation and range of motion assessment. A therapy session will then be tailored to your horse using a range of techniques to focus on problem areas. In most cases, you will also be left with a bespoke exercise plan and/or recommendations of exercises to ensure progress and performance maintenance.
Canine Physiotherapy
Canine physiotherapy is typically used to provide rehabilitation following injury, disease, or surgery. But it is also an effective measurement to prevent injury and ensure optimal performance in older or sporting dogs. ARC Veterinary Physiotherapy will work alongside and discuss all findings with your veterinary practice to ensure the best possible treatment is provided.

Canine sessions typically last about 1 hour. Canine physiotherapy sessions can be provided in the comfort of your home. During this time a full clinical history will be recorded as well as an assessment of posture, movement, range of motion, and palpation. Therapy will then be provided through manual therapies, electrotherapies and rehabilitation exercises. A bespoke treatment plan will then be given to you to ensure ongoing management.
Other Animal Physiotherapy
Adelaide has a Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management as well as a large amount of experience working in rescue centres and animal units. Adelaide has worked with a range of exotic species, farm animals, and pets and has extensive knowledge of husbandry requirements and comparative anatomy.

A therapy session will then be provided in the form of therapeutic techniques to aid in problem areas and pain relief, as well as, exercises tailored specifically to the presenting issues. You will also be left with a bespoke exercise programme to aid in rehabilitation and health maintenance.
